 King of the Beach (KOB) Tournament - General Information

  • The tournament is for male participation only, at this time.  Female tournaments are planned in the near future.

  • Participant must be at 18 years old. If participant is not 18 years old, parental consent is required to participate.

  • The tournament is for A and AA players classification.  

    • Players classification is to the discretion of the tournament director

  • In order to participate each player has to pay $25. 

    • Participation fee must be received by Nona Sports 48 hours in advance or by 5pm two days prior to the tournament.​

    • A $10 late fee may apply if payment is not received 48 hours prior to the tournament or by 5pm two days prior to the tournament.

  • The best player (The King) receives $50 via Cash App ($NonaSports) or Zelle as soon as possible but no later than 11:59pm EST on the day of the tournament.​

  • 2nd best player (A-King) receives $20 via Cash App ($NonaSports) or Zelle as soon as possible but no later than 11:59pm EST on the day of the tournament.​

  • Must have 5 players per court​​ to run the tournament (an exemption of 4 players may be to the discretion of the tournament director)
    • Every player will play with each participant player​

    • Every player will need to ref, keep score and keep track of match time​​

    • Every player will have to certified (with initials) the score of each match ref

  • Each player is required to behave professionally​, cordially and respectfully.  The idea is to have the highest level of competition possible while being honest and courteous to one another.​

 KOB Tournament - Rules

  • The 4 players playing the match are expected to make each others calls.

    • In the case of a dispute, it is highly encourage to "play the point over"​

    • There will not be more than 4 "play the point over" per match. 

    • At no point, the same pair of players will be requesting to "play the point over," more than 2 times per match unless the opposing pair of players agrees.

      • The idea is to respect each others calls and play the game as much as possible

  • There is only 1-30 second time-out​ permitted per match, per pair of players

  • Matches will be played to 15 points or 15 minutes (whichever comes 1st)

    • switch sides every summation of 5 points

    • win by 2 points, capped at 18 points

    • up to an additional two minutes will be added to the match, if the match is required to be extended beyond 15 points

    • The clock never stops; regardless of the time out, play over call and/or any dispute.

  • The players are expected to play and behave professionally (like if you are playing in front of your parents, kids, spouse and/or boss)

    • refrain from profanity

    • discussion and difference in opinions and/or calls are not to take longer than 30 seconds (Ref and/or tournament director will stay on top of that)

    • In the unfortunate event of altercation, the players involved will be reported to the City of Orlando and Orange County Police Department and may result in banishment from current and/or future tournaments and/or events.

      • If a player is involved in any altercation, the tournament fee will not be refunded.  

    • $25/player participation fee and must be paid 48 hours in advanced of the starting 1st match to avoid a $10 late fee.

KOB Tournament - Schedule

  • Warm up starts at 4:30pm

  • Tournament rules and tournament expectation discussion starts at 4:50pm

  • Players 1 & 2 versus Players 3 & 4, Ref by Player 5, starts at 5:00pm

  • Players 1 & 3 versus Players 4 & 5, Ref by Player 2, starts at 5:20pm

  • Players 1 & 4 versus Players 2 & 5, Ref by Player 3, starts at 5:40pm

  • Players 1 & 5 versus Players 2 & 3, Ref by Player 4, starts at 6:00pm

  • Players 5 & 3 versus Players 2 & 4, Ref by Player 1, starts at 6:20pm

  • In case of the need of a tie breaker match, such match will be planned to start no later than 6:45pm

​* Schedule varies when KOB is hosted on Saturday or Sunday morning

KOB Tournament - King and A-King Winner

  • The King will be determined as follows:

    • 1st Option - The player with the most matches won.

    • 2nd Option - Point differential

      • Match points scored (minus) points score by opposing team​

    • 3rd Option - The winner of the tie breaker match​

      • see below for the tie breaker match rules​

  • The A-King will be the runner up, following the criteria specified above to determine The King​

 KOB Tournament - Tie Breaker Rules

  • In case of a tie score for The King winner determination, a tie breaker match will be played. 

    • The tie breaker match will be played to 11 points or 11 minutes (whichever comes 1st).

      • The tie breaker will be played to 11 points, capped at 11 points.​

    • The two players with the tie score will play with the partner in which the obtained the lowest score of any of the previous matches played on that day tournament. 

    • The player not playing the tie breaker match, will have to ref the tie breaker match.

    • There is only 1-30 second time-out​ permitted for the tie breaker match, per pair of players.

    • There will only be one "play the point over" permitted for the tie breaker match, per pair of players.

    • The clock never stops; regardless of the time out, play over call and/or any dispute.

What to bring?

  • Dri-Fit Shirt and Pants (Highly Recommended)

  • Potable Water or Sport Drink

  • A gallon of water to rinse off the sand

  • Light Snack (Fruit or Protein Bar)

  • Face Mask

  • Sunglasses

  • Volleyballs

  • A good attitude to play, compete and have fun

Location

Participation Fee

  • $25 / player

    • 1st come, 1st serve (1st paid, 1st play)

    • No refunds will be provided if the tournament takes place​

      • No show, no refund​

    • If the tournament is cancelled due to player's illness or injury, weather or any act of God; the fee will be credited for a future tournament

Waiver and Release of Liability

By submitting the fee, the participant hereby releases, discharges, and otherwise indemnifies Nona Sports LLC, RMCA Sports LLC, Nona Lit Inc, City of Orlando, Orange County County, State of Florida, directors, managers, employees, contractors, agents, coaches, assistant coaches, family members, volunteers, and officials, against any claim by or on behalf of the player/participant. I take full responsibility for any injuries incurred or resultant death.  At the discretion of Nona Sports LLC, care may be given under whatever conditions are necessary to preserve the life, limb, or well being of the participant. I understand that insurance will not be furnished by Nona Sports LLC, RMCA Sports LLC, Nona Lit Inc, City of Orlando, Orange County County or the State of Florida.

By submitting the fee, the participant acknowledges that volleyball or any sporting event is an extreme test of a person's physical and mental limits and that participation in a volleyball event can cause death, serious injury, or property damage.  With a full understanding of the potential risks, I hereby understand the risks of participating in volleyball or any sporting event.

Covid-19 Release of Liability

The novel coronavirus (“COVID-19”) has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people. Nona Sports LLC has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, cannot guarantee that the participant or participan't family will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, attending any Nona Sports LLC program or activity could increase your risk of contracting COVID-19.

 

By submitting the fee, the participant acknowledges the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the exposure risk to or infected by COVID-19 while attending and/or participating in the Nona Sports LLC program or activity and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at the Nona Sports program or activity may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, Nona Sports employees, volunteers, and program participants and their families.

I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I may experience or incur in connection with my attendance at the Nona Sports program or activity.  By submitting the fee, I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless Nona Sports, City of Orlando, Orange County and the State of Florida, its employees, agents, and representatives, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto. I understand and agree that this release includes any claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of Nona Sports, its employees, agents, and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after attending any Nona Sports program or activity.
